Freedom

The moment Jesus died on the cross for my sins is the very moment FREEDOM became my reality.  For years I heard the story of Jesus but never fully understood what walking in FREEDOM actually looked like. Over these next few weeks we are going to hear from some old and new friends of mine. I love hearing people’s free to be stories.
Galatians 5:1 It is for FREEDOM that Christ to set us free.
I am FREE TO BE a masterpiece.
When I became a believer in college I had no idea what Freedom in Christ represented or even looked like. I knew that I had made a change within my heart but the feelings of wanting to binge eat, or make out with my man still existed. I still hated what I saw in the mirror and I still hated the thoughts of people not liking me.  My freedom story began the day I said yes to Jesus but it started a beautiful journey of redemption the moment I chose to believe Him.
Ephesians 2:10 For we are God’s masterpiece.
Wait what? A masterpiece.
Webster defines masterpiece as this; a work done with extraordinary skill.
God molded an shaped you to be extraordinary.
Embracing FREEDOM is harder than we often think. We think a good bible study, church service or small group is what propels our hearts into seasons of walking in Freedom. Friend thats only a piece of the puzzle. I believe that FREEDOM is a daily embrace of the cross and a daily release of any and everything that keeps us from seeing the cross clearly.  I saw the number on the scales, my past mistakes, my dad’s rejection, constant approval and so many other distractions as a means to keep me from experiencing the beauty of God’s redemption and also FREEDOM.
It took me going through some pretty tough seasons of fighting to believe I am who He says I am, pushing out the lies thrown at me by the enemy, creating healthy friendships, releasing control of my dreams and opening up God’s word  so that it could become a source of oxygen so to speak before I really embraced what it meant to walk in freedom.
Today maybe you are in the darkest season of your life and you can’t seem to see any glimpse of freedom or peace. Friend God isn’t finished with your story. The valleys that we find ourselves in either from our own sin, or disobedience or maybe by someone else can cause us to shift our eyes away from Jesus to the pit we are in.  Today choose to LOOK UP. Jesus is taking ALL of your story and handcrafting His story into it so that His name is glorified and you can walk in FREEDOM.
Walking is a movement. To walk in Freedom it simply means….
  1. Push past your past by always choosing to move in the direction of Jesus.
  1. Open up God’s word daily so that you can begin to crave, rely and allow His truth to be your only truth.
  2. Pray a lot (repentance, thanksgiving, for direction)
  3. Repeat 1-3
No freedom isn’t a formula but those things will help steer your heart in the direction of Jesus and friends JESUS IS OUR ONLY SOURCE OF FREEDOM!
